Cardboard Village Kapiti

Ministry Updates

The entire slum district was in shock! The previously reliable mayor had just taken his distant relative out of prison and given him the policeman’s job! This new policeman started wreaking havoc in the slum, throwing people into prison left right and centre. For every person who went to prison, a whole family was affected. How would they make it through the week? Fortunately, the new policeman was also more easily bribed. For a chocolate bar or some extra cash, the prisoners could get back to their cardboard village family!

This was one of many incidents in the recent Kapiti Cardboard Village that gave participants an insight into the challenges of living in a slum. We had the privilege of running this event at the beginning of May with Kim and Mary Robertson (OMF Lower North Island mobilisers), together with lots of practical support from family and friends. Johan Linder (OMF NZ director) was also able to join with us and share some thoughts on how we can respond.
